We are now providing tailored inhouse training for medium and large size architectural practices foused on upskilling existing staff and new recruits.
- Many large practices have built little new under the latest energy-efficiency and ventilation regulations in Ireland in the last five years, working instead on feasibility studies, and finishing out older work under previous Regs.
- As you know Part L(2011) represents a jump of 60% on Part L(2005) and even more on L(2002) under which most housing projects were built. The change is so significant it demands a serious review and upskilling of how we design and what we specify.
- Undergraduate architectural courses still do not have a strong energy/sustainbility focus so recent graduates often need immediate training.
- S.I. 9 (2014) requires a level of care and exactness in specification that will have further implications for the design process and the level of control architectural practices need to exert on overall specification.
- Besides the issue of compliance there has been significant focus in recent years on Boom-time dwellings that under-perform. It is important to understand what didn't work and why.
As a consequence there is a growing need for training. Inhouse training gives you more control of the course content and the method and timing of delivery.
In our inhouse courses we teach the Regs and guidance, the related building physics, relevant tools and updated design skills. We teach the use of DEAP from an architect's perspective (not that of a BER assessor). We clarify what ways of building are increasingly problematic and which make compliance easier. Building Life Consultancy has monitored many under-performing dwellings and created expert witness reports on same: we know what works and doesn't (even if elements are still deemed 'prima facia' compliant in various TDGs).
Joseph Little Architects (with our consultancy wing Building Life Consultancy) have taught in excess of 500 architects within the RIAI over the last four years. As trainers and as winners of the Green Award for Residential Building in 2013 we know what you need to learn and we have the experience training material to help you. The consultancy's building physics expertise (as passive house architects, thermal bridge and hygrothermal assessors) can give you confidence that we know what we are talking about and can prove it from first principles.
